ASMB Code of Conduct

We expect all meeting/workshop participants and guests to help us ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone. ASMB expects professional conduct at all times while at an ASMB sponsored event or while representing ASMB at other society meetings.

Unacceptable Behaviors

 Unacceptable Behaviors Include but Are Not Limited to: 

  • Photographing slides of oral presentations and posters without permission from the presenter
  • Recording of scientific and other sessions without permission from all presenters
  • Unwelcome and uninvited attention or contact
  • Inappropriate use of nudity and/or sexual images in public spaces (including presentation slides)
  • Harassing photography
  • Violating the rules and regulations of the conference hotel/venue
  • Harmful or prejudicial verbal or written comments or visual images related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, disability, or other personal characteristics
  • Intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory or demeaning speech or actions by any participant, at any related event
  • Threat of (real or implied), or inflicting actual professional or financial damage or harm
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following
  • Sustained disruption of scientific sessions or other events
  • Real or implied threat of physical harm
  • Physical assault (including unwelcome touch or groping) 

What To Do If You Witness or Experience Conduct That Violates the Code:

If you feel threatened or witness someone being threatened, please contact venue staff/security or call 911 immediately. ASMB leadership and staff is available to assist participants in contacting hotel/university security or local law enforcement, and otherwise assist those experiencing harassment, to enable them to feel safe for the duration of the conference. We value your attendance, and want to make your experience as productive and professionally inspiring as possible. 

Need to file a complaint? Please contact the ASMB office at [email protected] a complaint form. A copy of the complaint form will be provided to the accused for an opportunity to respond. 

Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behavior from any attendee, sponsor, venue staff, or vendor will not be tolerated. Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately.

 If a participant engages in unacceptable behavior, ASMB leadership or staff may remove said participant from the meeting/workshop, without refund, and/or ban from future ASMB events. Egregious violations will result in more severe sanctions, including the possibility of reporting to local law enforcement.
